Westport Fuel Systems Inc. was founded as Westport Innovations Inc. on March 20, 1995, under the Business Corporation Act (Alberta). The company changed its name to Westport Fuel Systems Inc. in 2016, following a merger with Fuel Systems Solutions Inc. on June 1, 2016. On July 21, 2008, Westport amended its articles to consolidate common shares on a 3.5:1 basis, with trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange commencing July 24, 2008. In the 2016 merger, Fuel Systems Solutions Inc. shareholders received 2.4755 Westport Innovation Inc. common shares for each share of Fuel Systems Solutions Inc. common stock. On July 5, 2024, Westport launched "Cespira," a joint venture with Volvo Group, to promote, develop, and accelerate the commercialization of the HPDI™ fuel system technology.
