We are a dermatologist-founded, late clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing innovative therapeutics for prevalent aesthetic and dermatological conditions. Our initial focus is on developing better treatments for PHL, a condition affecting approximately 50 million men and 30 million women in the United States. Current PHL treatment options are limited and often result in high rates of treatment failure, patient dissatisfaction, and discontinuation. Patients and healthcare providers frequently cite slow onset of hair growth, inconsistent results, insufficient hair density, tolerability issues related to hormonal, mood, and cardiac side effects, inconvenient administration, and limited FDA-approved options (with no FDA-approved oral options for women) as shortcomings. We are developing VDPHL01 as an oral, non-hormonal treatment for men and women with PHL. VDPHL01 is an oral, ER formulation of minoxidil, a proven hair growth agent. While immediate release (IR) oral minoxidil was originally for resistant hypertension and used off-label for PHL, its release profile was not designed for hair growth, requiring lower doses to reduce cardiac stimulation. VDPHL01 utilizes minoxidil's validated hair growth biology through a novel and proprietary ER formulation designed to maximize total plasma concentrations of minoxidil for hair growth without inducing changes in cardiac activity.
