The Bank is a federally chartered and insured savings bank headquartered in Topeka, Kansas, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company. The Bank is shifting its focus from retail customers to commercial customers by expanding its commercial banking services through investments in technology, staff, products, and services. It gathers deposits mainly from the public and businesses, then invests these funds primarily in commercial loans, which are either secured by real estate or for commercial and industrial uses. The Bank also provides permanent loans secured by first mortgages on owner-occupied, one- to four-family homes. The Bank offers various deposit accounts, including savings, money market, interest-bearing and non-interest-bearing checking accounts, and certificates of deposit with terms from 91 days to 120 months. It also provides a range of banking services, including treasury management services for commercial customers, tailored services for small businesses, and is expanding its private banking, trust, and wealth management products and services. The Company's financial performance largely depends on net interest income, which is the difference between interest earned on loans, securities, and cash, and interest paid on deposits and borrowings.
