Popular is a diversified financial holding company incorporated in 1984 under Puerto Rico law. It is the largest financial institution based in Puerto Rico, with consolidated assets of $75.3 billion, total deposits of $66.2 billion, and stockholders' equity of $6.2 billion as of December 31, 2025. As of the same date, Popular ranked among the 50 largest U.S. bank holding companies by total assets. The company operates in two main markets. In Puerto Rico, Popular provides retail, mortgage, and commercial banking services, along with auto and equipment leasing and financing, through its primary banking subsidiary, Banco Popular de Puerto Rico (BPPR). BPPR also offers broker-dealer and insurance services via specialized subsidiaries and has the largest retail banking franchise in Puerto Rico. BPPR's deposits are insured by the FDIC. In the Mainland United States, Popular offers retail and commercial banking services, as well as equipment leasing and financing, through its New York-chartered banking subsidiary, Popular Bank (PB). PB has branches in New York, New Jersey, and Florida, and its deposits are also FDIC-insured. BPPR additionally conducts banking operations in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, and New York. BPPR's New York operations include direct loan origination and participation in loans originated by PB. Furthermore, BPPR offers or holds financial products nationally in the U.S. market, including personal loans previously originated under the E-Loan brand, purchased personal loans from third parties, and insured institutional deposits gathered through online platforms.
