Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corporation, doing business as Wabtec Corporation, is a global provider of technology-based locomotives, equipment, systems, and services. The company serves the freight rail and passenger transit industries, as well as the mining, marine, and industrial markets and applications. Wabtec has approximately 31,000 employees, excluding contingent workers, and operates in over 50 countries. The original Westinghouse Air Brake Co. was founded in 1869. Westinghouse Air Brake Company ("WABCO") was formed in 1990 and went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 1995. Key acquisitions include the 1999 merger with MotivePower Industries, Inc., which led to the company adopting its current name. In 2017, Wabtec acquired Faiveley Transport, S.A., a French provider of integrated systems and services for the global transit rail market, making Wabtec a leader in manufacturing pantographs, automatic door mechanisms, air conditioning systems, railway braking systems, and couplers. The 2019 acquisition of GE Transportation, a business unit of General Electric Company, added a global technology leader and supplier of locomotives, equipment, services, and digital solutions to the rail, mining, marine, stationary power, and drilling industries.
