United Fire Group, Inc. (UFG) and its subsidiaries write property and casualty insurance through a network of independent agencies. Founded in 1946, UFG's insurance company subsidiaries are licensed as property and casualty insurers in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. UFG owns 100 percent of United Fire & Casualty Company (UF&C), which in turn owns 100 percent of eight subsidiaries: Addison Insurance Company, Lafayette Insurance Company, United Fire & Indemnity Company, Mercer Insurance Company, Financial Pacific Insurance Company, UFG Specialty Insurance Company, United Real Estate Holdings LLC, and McIntyre Cedar UK Limited. Mercer Insurance Company owns 100 percent of Franklin Insurance Company and Mercer Insurance Company of New Jersey, Inc. McIntyre Cedar UK Limited owns 100 percent of McIntyre Cedar Corporate Member LLP. UFG's business primarily consists of commercial lines of property and casualty insurance, including surety bonds. Its primary commercial policies are tailored business packages covering fire and allied lines, other liability, automobile, workers' compensation, and surety. These core commercial products serve small business owners and middle market businesses in industries such as construction, services, retail trade, financial, and manufacturing, distributed through approximately 850 independent property and casualty agencies. Contract surety and commercial surety bonds are offered through approximately 160 surety agencies. UFG partners with managing general agents (MGAs) for delegated underwriting programs offering niche products like marine specialty, professional liability, and earthquake coverages. The company also provides specialty and surplus lines coverage exclusively through wholesale brokers on both an admitted and non-admitted basis. Through its McIntyre Cedar Corporate Member (MCCM) subsidiary, UFG is a member of Lloyd's of London.
