United Bankshares, Inc.

United Bankshares, Inc. is a West Virginia corporation operating as a financial holding company. Incorporated on March 26, 1982, and beginning business on May 1, 1984, United has acquired thirty-three banking institutions since its formation. As of December 31, 2025, United's consolidated assets were approximately $33.7 billion and total shareholders' equity was approximately $5.5 billion. United's primary business is community banking. It operates one banking subsidiary, United Bank, which is based in Virginia and provides a full range of commercial and retail banking services and products. In addition to its banking operations, United owns nonbank subsidiaries that offer other community banking services. These services include asset management, real property title insurance, financial planning, mortgage banking, and brokerage services. United is authorized to acquire other banks, bank holding companies, and thrift institutions, and can also engage in non-banking activities closely related to banking, as permitted by the Bank Holding Company Act and the Federal Reserve Board's Regulation Y.
