Universal Protein (UP), also known as UP Proteins, develops, manufactures, and distributes nutrient-based edible insect foods and dog treats. The company was incorporated in Wyoming on December 28, 2021. Its product line includes protein bars, shakes, powders, drinks, cookies, and other health-conscious nutritional foods, snacks, and beverages, all featuring human-grade protein sourced from insects. These products are designed to offer substantial nutritional benefits, including high levels of vitamin B12, iron, zinc, fiber, essential amino acids, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and antioxidants. The company emphasizes environmental sustainability by using edible insects like crickets, which reduce greenhouse gas emissions and minimize agricultural land and water use. After selling its entire inventory of protein bar SKUs, the company is currently assessing market reception and evaluating potential business models. It is also exploring new copackers for competitive pricing and developing a third protein bar SKU, including white labeling proprietary formulas and licensing rights for various territories. As of now, the manufacturing and sale of protein bars have not resumed. Additionally, Universal Protein has a proprietary formula for dog treats designed to alleviate pain. Last year, the company sold the exclusive licensing rights for this formula in Mexico and is exploring white labeling and expanded licensing opportunities in other markets.
