In September 2020, its board of directors adopted a Treasury Reserve Policy, under which treasury reserve assets consist of cash and cash equivalents and short-term investments in excess of working capital requirements, and bitcoin, which serves as the primary treasury reserve asset on an ongoing basis, subject to market conditions and anticipated business needs for cash assets. In the first quarter of 2021, the company adopted a corporate strategy of acquiring and holding bitcoin, including with proceeds from capital raising transactions. Its capital markets strategy generally involves issuing Class A common stock and preferred securities through at-the-market equity offering programs when deemed advantageous. Prior to 2025, the company primarily relied on proceeds from sales of Class A common stock and senior convertible notes to purchase bitcoin. On August 11, 2025, the company changed its name from "MicroStrategy Incorporated" to "Strategy Inc".
