South Plains Financial, Inc. is a bank holding company headquartered in Lubbock, Texas. Its wholly-owned banking subsidiary, City Bank, is one of the largest independent banks in West Texas. The company also has banking operations in the Dallas, El Paso, Greater Houston, the Permian Basin, and College Station, Texas markets, and the Ruidoso, New Mexico market. Through City Bank, the company provides commercial and consumer financial services to small and medium-sized businesses and individuals. Its principal business activities include commercial and retail banking, along with investment, trust, and mortgage services. As of December 31, 2025, South Plains Financial, Inc. had total assets of $4.48 billion, gross loans held for investment of $3.14 billion, total deposits of $3.87 billion, and total shareholders' equity of $493.8 million. The company's history dates back over 80 years, tracing its beginnings to the founding of First State Bank of Morton in 1941, which held approximately $1 million of total assets. In 1962, the bank was sold to new management. Since 1984, the bank has grown from approximately $30 million in total assets and a single branch location. The parent company acquired South Plains National Bank of Levelland, Texas in 1991 and changed its name to South Plains Bank. The Company became the holding company in 1993, the same year it acquired City Bank, which was originally established in Lubbock in 1984. First State Bank of Morton and South Plains Bank were merged into City Bank in 1998 and 1999, respectively.
