Shorepower is a transportation electrification company that builds, deploys, and operates plug-in stations for electric vehicles, trucks, and refrigerated trailers. These stations allow vehicles to access electric power while parked, offering cost savings for fleets and drivers by reducing petroleum fuel use and associated emissions. The company operates North America's largest heavy-duty focused network of electrified parking spaces (EPS), comprising 60 facilities at travel centers with approximately 1,800 electrified parking spaces. Most of these facilities focus on truck stop electrification (TSE) and electric standby transport refrigeration units (eTRU), with some sites also including electric vehicle charging stations. Shorepower began as a TSE provider, supplying power for "hotel loads" at commercial parking facilities. This allows truck drivers, who must take a minimum 10-hour daily rest period, to shut down their main engines and plug into outlets. These outlets power in-cab devices such as heaters, air-conditioning units, coffee pots, microwaves, TVs, and computers. This service saves drivers and fleets an average of one gallon of diesel per hour, potentially saving drivers over $7,000 annually compared to idling an engine for 10 hours per day, 300 days per year, which could cost over $10,000 per year in wasted diesel fuel. Additionally, Shorepower has over 300 electric vehicle charging station connection points (plugs) that have been sold or are controlled by the company. These can be upgraded with the latest cellular-based control module to become revenue-producing stations. Combined with TSE station upgrades, the company has the potential to expand to over 2,000 connection points. For the initial upgrade phase, Shorepower expects to convert up to six stations per facility to Level 2 and add two or more DC fast chargers to select locations.
