Sony Group Corp

Sony Group Corporation, established in Japan in May 1946 as Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha (a joint stock company), changed its name to Sony Kabushiki Kaisha in January 1958 and then to Sony Group Kabushiki Kaisha in April 2021 to reflect its role as the group's headquarters. The company was listed on the TSE in December 1958 and issued American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) in the U.S. in June 1961. Sony Group Corporation was listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in September 1970. The company has a history of establishing and evolving subsidiaries and joint ventures. In March 1968, it formed CBS/Sony Records Inc. in Japan as a 50-50 joint venture with CBS Inc. in the U.S. This became a wholly-owned subsidiary in January 1988 and was renamed Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. (SMEJ) in April 1991, which was listed on the Second Section of the TSE in November 1991. In August 1979, Sony Group Corporation established Sony Prudential Life Insurance Co., Ltd. in Japan as a 50-50 joint venture with The Prudential Insurance Company of America. This joint venture was renamed Sony Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (Sony Life) in April 1991 and became a wholly-owned subsidiary in March 1996. Other subsidiaries have also been listed and restructured. Sony Magnescale Inc. was listed on the Second Section of the TSE in July 1984, later changing its name to Sony Precision Technology Inc. in October 1996 and then to Sony Manufacturing Systems Corporation in April 2004. In April 2012, Sony Manufacturing Systems merged into Sony EMCS Corporation, which was renamed Sony Global Manufacturing & Operations Corporation in April 2016. Additionally, Sony Chemicals Corporation was listed on the Second Section of the TSE in July 1987.
