Southern Michigan Bancorp, Inc. is a bank holding company incorporated on March 1, 1982, operating primarily through its subsidiary, Southern Michigan Bank & Trust. The company also owns Southern Michigan Bancorp Capital Trust I, a Delaware statutory trust, and Southern Michigan Bank is the parent company of FNB Financial Services, Inc., a Michigan corporation. These include time, savings, and demand deposits, safe deposit services, and automated teller machine services. The company extends commercial and consumer loans, primarily on a secured basis, to corporations, partnerships, and individuals. Commercial lending categories include business, industrial, agricultural, construction, inventory, and real estate. Consumer lending covers direct and indirect loans for residential real property and consumer goods. Additionally, the company provides trust and investment services such as investment management, trustee services, IRA rollovers and retirement plans, institutional and personal custody, estate settlement, wealth management, estate planning assistance, wealth transfer planning assistance, charitable gift planning assistance, and cash management custody. Southern Michigan Bancorp operates 15 banking offices located in Battle Creek, Camden, Centreville, Coldwater, Constantine, Hillsdale, Marshall, Mendon, Tekonsha, Three Rivers, and Union City, Michigan. On December 1, 2007, the company acquired FNB Financial Corporation and its subsidiary bank, FNB Financial, which was consolidated into Southern Michigan Bank & Trust on April 24, 2009.
