NuScale is redefining nuclear power through the development of proprietary and innovative Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology. The Company's core technology is the Light Water Nuclear Reactor NuScale Power Module™ (NPM), which can generate 77 MWe. This technology is based on established nuclear principles, focusing on integrated components, simplified or eliminated systems, and passive safety features. NuScale believes this design results in a safe and reliable power plant suitable for locations needing electricity, water desalinization, hydrogen production, or process heat. Since 2007, over $1.8 billion has been invested in NuScale technology development, including more than $578.3 million from the DOE through cost-share programs. The Company holds 513 global patents and has an additional 268 patent applications pending. In September 2020, NuScale's 12-module design, approved for 160 million watts of thermal power or 50 MWe per NPM, became the first and only SMR to receive a Standard Design Approval (SDA) from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). In May 2025, the NRC finalized its review and approved NuScale's second SDA application and associated licensing topical reports for its 6-unit 77 MWe NPM design. This allows U.S. customers to reference the approved design and SDA for expedited construction and operating licensing for plants using NuScale SMR technology. The NPM technology leverages existing light water nuclear reactor technology and conventional low-enriched uranium fuel supply, which have been operating globally for over 60 years.
