Schmitt is a holding company that owns subsidiaries engaged in diverse business activities, with a current focus on its Ample Hills business. On July 9, 2020, Schmitt's wholly owned subsidiary, Ample Hills Acquisition LLC, acquired Ample Hills Holdings, Inc., Ample Hills Creamery, Inc., and their subsidiaries. This acquisition was completed through a Bankruptcy Court-supervised process after the Ample Hills entities filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on March 15, 2020. On April 14, 2022, Schmitt announced its intention to concentrate on Ample Hills as its primary business, aiming to accelerate its growth strategy, reduce costs, and allocate resources to this core business line. Concurrently, the company initiated a strategic review of its Schmitt Measurement Systems (SMS) business lines, which are based in Portland, Oregon. Schmitt was originally incorporated in British Columbia, Canada, in 1984 and reincorporated in Oregon in 1995. The company is ISO 9001 certified and trades on the Nasdaq Composite Index under the ticker "SMIT."
