Shell plc is an energy and petrochemical company operating across Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa, the United States, and other parts of the Americas. The company is structured into five segments: Integrated Gas, Upstream, Marketing, Chemicals and Products, and Renewables and Energy Solutions. Shell explores for and extracts natural gas, which is then used to produce liquefied natural gas or converted into gas-to-liquids (GTL) fuels and other products. It also explores for and extracts crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids. Shell manages the marketing and transportation of oil, gas, and liquids, utilizing infrastructure to deliver these to market or to its chemical manufacturing plants and refineries. Its Marketing segment covers mobility, lubricants, and decarbonization-focused sectors. This includes operating a retail network with electric vehicle charging and convenience retail, alongside a wholesale commercial fuels business for transport and industry. Shell sells products for road transport and machinery in manufacturing, mining, power generation, agriculture, and construction. The company also provides low-carbon energy solutions, such as biofuels, to commercial customers in aviation, marine, and agriculture. The Chemicals and Products segment encompasses chemical manufacturing plants with their own marketing networks, and refineries that process crude oil and other feedstocks into various oil products for global domestic, industrial, and transport use. Shell also operates a pipeline business and engages in the trading and optimization of crude oil, oil products, and petrochemicals. The company was founded in 1897 and changed its name from Royal Dutch Shell plc to Shell plc in January 2022. It is headquartered in London, United Kingdom.
