SpyGlass Pharma, Inc. is a late-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on changing how chronic eye conditions are treated by delivering approved medicines in a long-acting, sustained manner. The company aims to improve the lives of patients with chronic eye conditions by developing durable drug delivery solutions that provide confidence in long-term disease control and vision preservation for patients and surgeons. Its primary product candidate is the Bimatoprost Drug Pad-IOL System (BIM-IOL System). This system consists of novel, proprietary drug pads attached to an intraocular lens (IOL) and is designed for implantation during routine cataract surgery. Its purpose is to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with either open-angle glaucoma (OAG) or ocular hypertension (OHT). The BIM-IOL System is engineered to consistently deliver bimatoprost for three years. Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analog (PGA) that the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved in 2001 for topical use to reduce elevated IOP in OAG or OHT patients. SpyGlass Pharma, Inc. is also developing a non-IOL-based, ring-shaped, sustained-release implant containing bimatoprost. This implant is intended for standalone procedures, retreatment of patients who have received the BIM-IOL System, and extended care for pseudophakic patients with OAG or OHT who have already undergone cataract surgery. In its first-in-human (FIH) feasibility clinical trial, evaluable patients receiving the BIM-IOL System showed a mean IOP reduction of 37% at 36 months, with no product-related adverse events (AEs). At 36 months, 95% of evaluable patients were off all topical IOP-lowering drops. In a Phase 1/2 multicenter, randomized, controlled trial, patients in the 78 mcg and 39 mcg dose groups of the BIM-IOL System achieved mean IOP reductions of 37% and 36%, respectively, at three months, maintaining similar rates of mean IOP reduction at twelve months.
