Origin Agritech Limited is a biotechnology seed company primarily focused on corn seed development and distribution, alongside research into genetically enhanced breeding technologies for agricultural crops. The company was initially incorporated in the British Virgin Islands on February 10, 2005, and re-registered on July 10, 2006, under the BVI Business Companies Act, 2004. Its predecessor, Chardan China Acquisition Corp., a Delaware corporation formed on December 5, 2003, merged into Origin to complete the acquisition of State Harvest Holdings Limited, a British Virgin Islands company incorporated on October 6, 2004. Origin's ordinary shares have traded on the Nasdaq Capital Market since June 5, 2019. Previously, they traded on the Nasdaq Global Market from November 8, 2005, to June 25, 2007, and the Nasdaq Global Select Market from June 26, 2007, to June 4, 2019. Origin began as a traditional seed development, marketing, and distribution company, creating genetically modified seeds. In 2015, the company transitioned its corporate strategy to become a biotechnology seed company. It has developed transgenic corn seed products, including a first-generation biotech product with phytase traits, a second-generation biotech product with glyphosate tolerance traits, and new technologies featuring stacked traits of Bt and glyphosate tolerance genes.
