RAP-219 is designed to achieve neuroanatomical specificity by selectively targeting TARP  8, a RAP associated with neuronal AMPARs. While AMPARs are widely distributed in the central nervous system (CNS), TARP  8 is expressed only in specific regions like the neocortex and mesial temporal lobe, where focal onset seizures (FOS) often begin. TARP  8 has low expression in the hindbrain, a region often linked to adverse drug events. The company believes RAP-219 has the potential for a differentiated profile compared to traditional neuroscience medications.
