PRF Technologies is a specialty pharmaceutical company that reformulates existing therapeutics. The company uses a proprietary extended-release drug-delivery system designed to offer prolonged post-surgical pain relief without repeated dosing, aiming to reduce the need for opiates. In March 2025, PRF Technologies acquired the business operations related to DeepSolar, an AI-driven solar analytics technology. Within its Drug Development Business, PRF Technologies' strategy involves combining generic drugs with its extended-release drug-delivery system to create extended-release drug products. This approach leverages the FDA's 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway, which allows for new drug approval based partly on data developed by others, including published literature and data previously reviewed by the FDA. PRF-110, the company's initial product candidate, uses the local anesthetic ropivacaine and targets the post-operative pain relief market. PRF-110 is an oil-based, viscous, clear solution applied directly into the surgical wound bed before closure to provide localized and extended post-operative pain relief. A 15-patient Phase 2 proof-of-concept clinical study in hernia repair showed PRF-110 provided significant pain reduction for up to 72 hours post-operatively. This contrasts with ropivacaine alone, which provides pain relief for only 2 to 6 hours according to its FDA-approved drug description. Surgeons in the PRF-110 Phase 2 trial reported easy integration into procedures without disrupting existing surgical techniques. Ropivacaine, the active drug in PRF-110, is a safe and well-characterized local analgesic, and other components in the PRF-110 formulation are classified as GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) by the FDA.
