We are a biotechnology company focused on developing cellular therapies for cancer. Our core technology is "Cell-in-a-Box®," a proprietary cellulose-based live cell encapsulation technology. This platform is designed to develop therapies for various cancer types, including LAPC. Our current product candidate is "CypCaps™." As of April 30, 2024, we stopped pursuing research and development in diabetes treatment. On November 17, 2023, our Board formed the Strategic Scientific Committee, chaired by Dr. Michael Abecassis, to review business risks. The Board is also reviewing risks related to our development programs and our relationship with SG Austria Pte. Ltd ("SG Austria"), noting that all licensed patents have expired and know-how for Cell-in-a-Box® technology resides solely with SG Austria. We have reduced spending on programs, including pre-clinical and clinical activities, pending the completion of these reviews and the Board's determination of future actions. The Scientific Committee may recommend a new framework for our relationship with SG Austria and its subsidiaries. We are reevaluating programs dependent on SG Austria and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) acceptance of its technologies, including our development programs for locally advanced, inoperable, non-metastatic pancreatic cancer ("LAPC"). This reevaluation, addressing FDA concerns, has caused delays due to the review of SG Austria's non-clinical package and changes in the FDA review process. The Cell-in-a-Box® technology is designed to encapsulate genetically engineered live human cells within pinhead-sized cellulose-based porous capsules. These cells can be grown to confluence and maintained cryopreserved until injection into a patient.
