Polaris Inc. designs, engineers, manufactures, and markets powersports vehicles and related parts, garments, and accessories (PG&A), including aftermarket accessories and apparel. The company, which began operations in 1954, sells its products online and through dealers and distributors primarily in the United States, Canada, Western Europe, Australia, and Mexico. Polaris operates through three business segments: Off Road, On Road, and Marine. In North America, products are sold through a network of approximately 2,400 independent dealers. Internationally, the company utilizes 25 subsidiaries to sell products to over 1,500 independent international dealers and 70 independent distributors, serving over 90 countries outside of North America. While many dealers and distributors are multi-line and carry competitor products, some carry Polaris's full product line. The Off Road segment primarily includes off-road vehicles (ORVs) and snowmobiles. ORVs, which are four-wheel vehicles, are designed for various terrains like dunes, trails, and mud. These vehicles can be multi-passenger or single-passenger and are used for recreational activities such as fishing, hunting, and trail riding, as well as for utility purposes on farms, ranches, and construction sites. The ORV industry encompasses all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and side-by-side vehicles. Internationally, ATVs and side-by-sides are primarily sold in Western Europe, Australia, and Mexico by manufacturers similar to those in North America.
