OPAL Fuels Inc. is a vertically integrated leader in capturing and converting biogas into low carbon intensity renewable natural gas (RNG) and Renewable Power. The company also leads in marketing and distributing RNG to heavy-duty trucking and other industrial sectors that are difficult to de-carbonize. RNG is chemically identical to natural gas but is produced by recycling methane emissions from decaying organic waste, unlike fossil fuel-based natural gas. OPAL Fuels has been involved in the biogas-to-energy industry for over 20 years. Biogas, generated by microbes breaking down organic matter without oxygen, is a non-fossil waste gas rich in methane, which is the main component of RNG and the fuel source for Renewable Power plants. Biogas can be processed into high-Btu RNG and injected into existing natural gas pipelines, or partially treated for heating or Renewable Power production. The principal sources of biogas are landfill gas (LFG) from decomposing organic waste and dairy manure processed in anaerobic digesters. OPAL Fuels also designs, develops, constructs, operates, and services Fueling Stations for trucking fleets nationwide that use natural gas instead of diesel. The company has participated in the alternative vehicle fuels industry for over a decade, establishing an expanding network of RNG dispensing Fueling Stations. Recently, OPAL Fuels began implementing design, development, and construction services for hydrogen Fueling Stations and is exploring opportunities to diversify biogas sources to other waste streams.
