Nuvera is a diversified communications company headquartered in New Ulm, Minnesota, with over 120 years of experience. The company operates in one principal business segment, the Communications Segment, which consists of seven communications companies. Nuvera's original business, New Ulm Rural Telephone Company, was founded in 1905. Over the years, the company expanded through acquisitions, including Western Telephone Company (WTC) in 1986, Peoples Telephone Company (PTC) in 1993, Hutchinson Telephone Company (HTC) in 2008, Sleepy Eye Telephone Company (SETC) in 2012, and Scott-Rice Telephone Co. (Scott-Rice) in 2018. Nuvera connects customers to its advanced fiber communications network, offering managed services, switched service, dedicated private lines, and connections to long-distance service providers. The company also provides Internet protocol television (IPTV), cable television services (CATV), Internet access services including high-speed broadband, and long-distance service. Nuvera installs and maintains communications systems in and around its service territories in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. In 2008, Nuvera acquired Hutchinson Telecommunications, Inc. (HTI), which operates in and around Litchfield, Minnesota, with less regulatory oversight. In 2010, HTI acquired and now operates the cable TV system in Glencoe, offering the same services as Nuvera's other communications companies. The company changed its marketing name to NU-Telecom in 2000 and then to Nuvera in 2018.
