NORFOLK SOUTHERN CORP

Norfolk Southern Corporation is an Atlanta, Georgia-based company primarily engaged in freight rail transportation. Incorporated on July 23, 1980, in Virginia, its common stock is listed on the NYSE under the symbol "NSC." The company owns Norfolk Southern Railway Company (NSR) and collectively refers to itself and its subsidiaries as NS. NS transports raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods primarily across the Southeast, East, and Midwest of the U.S. Through interchanges with other rail carriers, NS extends its reach to and from the rest of the U.S. It also handles overseas freight through various Atlantic and Gulf Coast ports. NS operates the most extensive intermodal network in the eastern half of the U.S. On July 28, 2025, NS entered into a Merger Agreement with Union Pacific Corporation, Ruby Merger Sub 1 Corporation, and Ruby Merger Sub 2 LLC.
