MPC is an integrated downstream and midstream energy company with nearly 140 years of history. The company operates one of the nation's largest refining systems, with approximately 3.0 million barrels per day of crude oil refining capacity. MPC is a large wholesale supplier of gasoline and distillates to resellers in the United States, distributing products through one of the largest terminal operations and one of the largest private domestic fleets of inland petroleum product barges. The company's integrated midstream energy asset network connects natural gas and NGLs producers from major U.S. supply basins to domestic and international markets. MPC is also one of the largest producers and marketers of renewable diesel in the United States. The company operates through three reportable segments: Refining & Marketing, Midstream, and Renewable Diesel. The Refining & Marketing segment refines crude oil and other feedstocks at refineries in the Gulf Coast, Mid-Continent, and West Coast regions of the United States. It also purchases refined products and ethanol for resale and distributes refined products using services largely provided by the Midstream segment. This segment sells refined products to domestic and international wholesale marketing customers, spot market buyers, independent entrepreneurs operating primarily Marathon® branded outlets, and direct dealers operating mainly ARCO® branded locations through long-term supply contracts. The Midstream segment primarily reflects the results of MPLX and is responsible for gathering, transporting, storing, and distributing crude oil, refined products (including renewable diesel), and other hydrocarbon-based products, mainly for the Refining & Marketing segment, using refining logistics assets, pipelines, terminals, towboats, and barges. It also gathers, treats, processes, and transports natural gas, and transports, fractionates, stores, and markets NGLs.
