Matson, Inc. is a holding company incorporated in Hawaii that provides ocean transportation and logistics services through its two segments: Ocean Transportation and Logistics. The Ocean Transportation segment operates through Matson Navigation Company, Inc. (MatNav), founded in 1882. MatNav offers ocean freight transportation services to Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, and other Micronesian island economies. It also provides premium, expedited services from China to Long Beach, California, including cargo from other Asian origins, and services to Okinawa, Japan, and various South Pacific islands. Additionally, MatNav operates an international export service from Alaska to Asia. Subsidiaries of MatNav also provide stevedoring, refrigerated cargo services, inland transportation, and other terminal services for MatNav in Hawaii and Alaska. Matson holds a 35 percent ownership interest in SSA Terminals, LLC (SSAT), a joint venture that provides terminal and stevedoring services to various carriers at seven U.S. West Coast terminal facilities, with three dedicated for MatNav's use. Matson records its share of income from SSAT within the Ocean Transportation segment. The Logistics segment operates through Matson Logistics, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of MatNav.
