Mativ was incorporated in Delaware in 1995 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kimberly-Clark Corporation. On November 30, 1995, Kimberly-Clark transferred its tobacco-related paper and other paper products businesses in the United States, France, and Canada to the company, making Mativ an independent public company. Over time, Mativ diversified its portfolio through innovation and acquisitions, expanding into categories like filtration, specialty films, tapes, and healthcare. On July 6, 2022, Schweitzer-Mauduit International, Inc. (SWM) merged with Neenah, Inc., with Neenah surviving as a wholly-owned subsidiary of SWM. Effective on this date, SWM changed its name to Mativ Holdings, Inc. On November 30, 2023, Mativ completed the sale of its Engineered Papers business to Evergreen Hill Enterprise Pte. Ltd., ceasing participation in tobacco-based product markets. The Engineered Papers business is now presented as a discontinued operation for all periods.
