Kosmos Energy is a deepwater exploration and production company. The company produces oil and gas from assets located offshore Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, Mauritania, Senegal, and the Gulf of America. Kosmos Energy was founded in 2003 with an initial focus on finding oil and gas in under-explored or overlooked areas of West Africa. The company has a history of opening new hydrocarbon basins, including the discovery of the Jubilee Field offshore Ghana in 2007 and the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim Field in 2015. The Greater Tortue Ahmeyim Field includes the Ahmeyim and Guembeul discoveries offshore Mauritania and Senegal in 2015 and 2016, respectively. The Jubilee discovery was one of the largest oil discoveries worldwide in 2007. The Greater Tortue Ahmeyim discovery was one of the largest natural gas discoveries worldwide in 2015. Kosmos Energy's business strategy focuses on enhancing production through infill drilling and well work, infrastructure-led exploration, and value-accretive acquisitions. This strategy was supported by the acquisition of the Ceiba Field and Okume Complex assets offshore Equatorial Guinea in 2017, and the 2018 acquisition of Deep Gulf Energy, a deepwater company operating in the Gulf of America. The company has achieved infrastructure-led exploration success with the Winterfell and Tiberius discoveries in the Gulf of America in 2021 and 2023, respectively. Kosmos Energy has also completed value-accretive acquisitions, including additional interests in the Jubilee and TEN fields offshore Ghana in 2021 and the Kodiak field in the Gulf of America in 2022.
