Klarna Group plc provides flexible payment solutions and financial services. Initially, Klarna focused on allowing consumers to pay for goods after delivery to reduce friction in e-commerce. The company expanded across the Nordic region and into other European markets, operating in the Nordics, Germany, and the Netherlands by 2010, and in nine markets, including Austria, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, by 2016. During this period, Klarna scaled its payments platform, expanded its merchant network, and refined underwriting capabilities for real-time transaction decisioning. In 2017, Klarna began operating as a licensed bank within the European Economic Area after approval by the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority, enabling it to fund lending activities through customer deposits and develop consumer and merchant offerings. Starting in 2019, Klarna expanded internationally, focusing on the United States, and introduced new payment options including immediate payment, deferred payment, and longer fixed-term financing. Klarna also expanded into adjacent commerce services, scaling advertising and merchant marketing solutions in 2019. Subsequent years saw the introduction of consumer-facing products like the Klarna app and the Klarna Card. In May 2024, Klarna completed a corporate reorganization, redomiciling its parent entity from Sweden to the United Kingdom, making Klarna Group plc the ultimate holding company.
