GWRI is a water resource management company that owns, operates, and manages thirty-nine public utility systems for water, wastewater, and recycled water. These systems are primarily located in metropolitan Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona. The company uses an integrated approach called "Total Water Management," which aims to reduce reliance on scarce non-renewable and costly renewable water sources while ensuring sustainability and benefiting communities environmentally and economically. This approach involves principles such as reusing recycled water for non-potable uses, aquifer recharge, and potentially direct potable reuse in the future; regional planning; using advanced technology and data; employing subject matter experts; leading outreach and educational initiatives for stakeholders; and establishing partnerships with communities, developers, and industry stakeholders.
