Ferroglobe PLC produces and sells silicon metal, and silicon and manganese-based alloys. The company provides silicon metal for applications in construction-related products, electronics, personal care items, health care, and for primary and secondary aluminum producers. It offers silicomanganese, used as a deoxidizing agent in steel manufacturing, and ferromanganese, used as a deoxidizing, desulphurizing, and degassing agent to remove nitrogen and other harmful elements from steel. Ferroglobe also provides ferrosilicon products for producing stainless steel, carbon steel, various other steel alloys, electrodes, and aluminum. Calcium silicon is offered for deoxidation and desulfurization of liquid steel, cast iron pipe coating production, powder metal welding, pyrotechnics, and to control the shape, size, and distribution of oxide and sulfide inclusions. Foundry products include nodularizers and inoculants for iron production. The company also supplies silica fume, a by-product of the electrometallurgical process of silicon metal and ferrosilicon. Ferroglobe operates quartz mines in South Africa, Spain, the United States, and Canada, and low-ash metallurgical coal mines in the United States. It also operates a hydroelectric power plant in France and procures coal, manganese ore, quartz, petroleum and metallurgical coke, electrodes, and additive metals. The company serves silicone chemical producers, aluminum and steel manufacturers, auto companies and their suppliers, ductile iron foundries, manufacturers of photovoltaic solar cells and computer chips, and concrete producers.
