DTE Energy, incorporated in Michigan in 1995, operates primarily through its utility businesses, DTE Electric and DTE Gas, and two other energy-related segments. DTE Electric, a Michigan corporation organized in 1903, is a public utility that generates, purchases, distributes, and sells electricity to approximately 2.3 million customers in southeastern Michigan. DTE Gas, a Michigan corporation organized in 1898, is a public utility that purchases, stores, transports, distributes, and sells natural gas to approximately 1.4 million customers across Michigan, and also sells storage and transportation capacity. DTE Energy's other businesses include DTE Vantage, which focuses on renewable natural gas projects and custom energy solutions for industrial, commercial, and institutional clients, and energy marketing and trading operations. DTE Electric and DTE Gas are regulated by the MPSC, and certain activities of both utilities, along with other DTE Energy businesses, are regulated by the FERC. The company is also regulated by other federal and state agencies, including the NRC, EPA, EGLE, and for DTE Energy, the CFTC and CARB.
