Cummins Inc. was founded in 1919 as Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana, as one of the first diesel engine manufacturers. The company changed its name to Cummins Inc. in 2001. Cummins is a global power leader that provides innovative solutions. The company operates through five reportable segments: Engine, Components, Distribution, Power Systems, and Accelera. These segments offer a broad portfolio including advanced diesel, electric, and hybrid powertrains; integrated power generation systems; critical components such as aftertreatment, turbochargers, fuel systems, controls, transmissions, axles, and brakes; and zero emissions technologies like battery and electric powertrain systems. Cummins sells its products to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), distributors, dealers, and other customers worldwide. The company serves its customers through a service network of approximately 640 wholly-owned, joint venture, and independent distributor locations and more than 13,000 Cummins certified dealer locations in approximately 190 countries and territories. On March 18, 2024, Cummins completed the divestiture of its remaining 80.5 percent ownership of Atmus Filtration Technologies Inc. common stock, which resulted in a reduction of 5.6 million shares of its common stock outstanding and a gain of approximately $1.3 billion. In December 2023, the company reached an agreement in principle with the EPA, CARB, the DOJ, and the California Attorney General's Office to resolve certain regulatory civil claims, which became final and effective in April 2024. In the second quarter of 2024, Cummins made $1.9 billion of payments required by these Settlement Agreements.
