Originally organized as Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1925 in California, the company was reorganized as Caterpillar Inc. in 1986 in Delaware. The company operates through five operating segments, four of which are reportable: Power & Energy, Construction Industries, Resource Industries, and Financial Products. The Power & Energy segment, Construction Industries segment, and Resource Industries segment are supported by one of the largest independent global dealer networks. Financial Products, primarily Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation (Cat Financial) and Insurance Services through Caterpillar Insurance Holdings Inc., provides financing to customers and dealers for the purchase and lease of Caterpillar and other equipment. The company's operations involve the design, manufacturing, and marketing of its products.
