Layers are mature female chickens, pullets are female chickens usually less than 18 weeks of age, and breeders are male and female chickens used to produce fertile eggs for egg production flocks. As of May 31, 2025, the total flock consisted of approximately 48.3 million layers and 11.5 million pullets and breeders. CAL-MAINE FOODS INC supplies both specialty and conventional eggs. Specialty eggs include cage-free, organic, brown, free-range, pasture-raised, and nutritionally enhanced eggs. All other shell eggs are classified as conventional products. While sales information is reported separately for these egg types, cost factors are managed on a consolidated basis due to the nature of egg production, with resources allocated based on customer demand.
