Anavex Life Sciences Corp. is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing specialized treatments for central nervous system (CNS) diseases with significant unmet medical needs. When activated by specific ligands, sigma receptors influence multiple biochemical signals involved in disease development. The SIGMAR1 gene produces the SIGMAR1 protein, an intracellular chaperone protein crucial for cellular communication. This protein also participates in transcriptional regulation at the nuclear envelope, restoring cellular balance and stimulating cell function recovery when activated. In collaboration with Stanford University, Anavex conducted a quantitative Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging scan in mice, which demonstrated a dose-dependent ANAVEX ® 2-73 (blarcamesine) target engagement or receptor occupancy with SIGMAR1 in the brain.
