Anebulo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company focused on developing treatments for cannabis-induced toxicity, including acute cannabis-induced toxicity in children and acute cannabinoid intoxication (ACI) in adults. The company's primary product candidate, selonabant (formerly ANEB-001), is designed to quickly reverse the negative effects of cannabis-induced toxicity and shorten recovery time. Children exposed to cannabis face risks such as Central Nervous System (CNS) depression, respiratory depression, seizures, and coma. Adults with ACI may experience anxiety, panic attacks, agitation, psychosis, and tachycardia. Currently, there are no approved medical treatments specifically for cannabis-induced toxicity. Anebulo Pharmaceuticals is not aware of any competing products further along in development than selonabant for reversing the effects of cannabinoids like delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive component of cannabis. Cannabis-induced toxicity is a growing health concern in the United States, particularly in states where cannabis is legalized for medical and recreational use. Unintentional or excessive consumption of THC, often through edible products like gummies, candies, and brownies, is a significant cause of THC-related emergency room visits. U.S. hospital emergency rooms have seen a substantial increase in patients with cannabis-related conditions. In 2014, there were an estimated 1.1 million cannabis-related emergency department patient visits. This number is believed to have grown to approximately 1.8 million patients in 2021, based on an analysis of the most recent Nationwide Emergency Department Sample (NEDS) data.
