Aemetis, Inc. is an international renewable natural gas and renewable fuels company founded in 2006 and headquartered in Cupertino, California. The company focuses on operating, acquiring, developing, and commercializing technologies to produce low and negative carbon intensity renewable fuels from agricultural products and wastes. Aemetis's current operations include California Ethanol and California Dairy Renewable Natural Gas. In California Ethanol, Aemetis owns and operates a 65 million gallon per year capacity ethanol production facility in Keyes, California. This facility produces low carbon renewable fuel ethanol, along with Wet Distillers Grains (WDG), Distillers Corn Oil (DCO), and Condensed Distillers Solubles (CDS), which are sold as animal feed to local dairies and feedlots. The Keyes Plant also sells CO₂ captured from the ethanol fermentation process for use in the food, beverage, and other industries. The company is implementing energy efficiency initiatives at this plant to reduce operating costs and lower the carbon intensity of its ethanol. In California Dairy Renewable Natural Gas, Aemetis produces Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) in central California. The company currently operates twelve anaerobic digesters that produce biogas from dairy waste. This biogas is transported through a 36-mile collection pipeline to a central RNG production facility, where it is then injected into the utility natural gas pipeline for use as transportation fuel. Aemetis is expanding its RNG production, with additional dairy digesters under construction, agreements with over fifty dairies, and a completed environmental review for an additional 24 miles of biogas pipeline. The company is also building its own RNG fuel dispensing station, planned to begin operating in 2026.
