Ambarella, incorporated in 2004, is a leading developer of low-power system-on-a-chip (SoC) semiconductors and software for edge and physical artificial intelligence (AI) applications and intelligent automation. The company's technologies enhance electronic systems, enabling partial or full autonomy with features like intelligent automation, complex scene understanding, and autonomous decision-making. These systems perform multi-modal data fusion and complex data analysis in real time, providing high-quality imagery and conserving system resources such as power and network bandwidth. Ambarella specializes in deployable, scalable designs for intelligent electronic systems that use high-bandwidth sensors. Its products are used in human viewing and computer vision for edge and physical AI applications, including video security cameras, automotive camera systems, fixed robots, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), industrial applications, intelligent transportation systems, and consumer devices like action, drone, and 360° cameras. Until 2023, most revenue came from human-viewing only applications, such as video and image processors for enterprise, public infrastructure, and home applications, including internet protocol (IP) security cameras, sports cameras, wearables, aerial drones, and aftermarket automotive video recorders. Ambarella has used this heritage to build its AI-driven perception and autonomous business. Recent development focuses on advanced AI inference technology, allowing edge devices to perceive, reason about, and interact with the physical world using data from cameras and other sensors like 4D radar. This is known as physical AI, where devices make autonomous decisions as intelligent agents at the edge. Ambarella's AI inference SoCs combine its video processor technology with its proprietary AI accelerator, a deep learning neural network processor called CVflow®. The CVflow-architecture supports various AI inference algorithms, including object detection, classification and tracking, semantic and instance segmentation, image processing, stereo object detection, and terrain mapping.
