The company's predecessor was incorporated in Texas in 1969, succeeding a business that began selling mowing equipment in 1955, and Alamo Group Inc. was reincorporated in Delaware in 1987. Its initial products used rotary cutting technology, adding flail cutting technology in 1983 and sickle-bar cutting technology in 1984 through acquisitions. In 1986, Alamo Group entered agricultural mowing markets with the acquisition of Rhino Products Inc. The acquisition of M&W Gear Company in early 1995 allowed the company to enter the manufacturing and distribution of tillage equipment. M&W is part of the vegetation management marketing group.
