Aeva, Inc. develops and commercializes 4D LiDAR-on-chip sensing technology. Founded in 2017 by Soroush Salehian and Mina Rezk, the company's mission is to apply perception technology to various applications, including automated driving, manufacturing automation, smart infrastructure, robotics, and consumer devices. Aeva's core product is a 4D LiDAR-on-chip that utilizes Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave ("FMCW") sensing technology, combined with proprietary software applications. This technology integrates silicon photonics, which is established in the telecom industry, to provide precise instant velocity measurements and long-range performance. Unlike traditional 3D LiDAR, which uses Time-of-Flight ("ToF") technology to measure only depth and reflectivity, Aeva's FMCW solution measures velocity in addition to depth, reflectivity, and inertial motion. The ability to measure instant velocity for every pixel is a key differentiator. Aeva's technology is also designed to be immune to interference from other LiDAR systems, beams, and sunlight. Its FMCW innovations aim to enable vehicles to detect objects at distances up to 500 meters. The 4D LiDAR-on-chip is fully integrated onto a chip, offering superior performance at scale and potentially enabling higher levels of automation in vehicles and new perception categories in industrial automation, consumer devices, and security markets.
