The company was founded in 1929 as Advance Stores Company, Incorporated, initially selling general merchandise, including automotive parts. In the 1980s, it shifted focus to automotive parts and accessories for DIY customers. Advance Auto Parts began its professional delivery program in 1996 and has served professional customers since 2000. The company has expanded through strategic acquisitions, new store openings, and comparable store sales growth. Advance Auto Parts, Inc. was incorporated in Delaware in 2001.
