Spire Inc. is a holding company formed in 2000, overseeing Spire Missouri Inc. (formed in 1857), Spire Alabama Inc. (formed in 1948), other gas utilities, and gas-related businesses. The company operates through three reportable business segments: Gas Utility, Gas Marketing, and Midstream. The Gas Utility segment encompasses the regulated operations of Spire Missouri, Spire Alabama, Spire Gulf Inc., and Spire Mississippi Inc. Due to the seasonal nature of these utilities' business and Spire Missouri's volumetric rate design, earnings for Spire and its utilities are typically concentrated during the heating season, from November through April of each fiscal year. The Gas Marketing segment includes Spire Marketing Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary that provides natural gas marketing services. The Midstream segment consists of Spire STL Pipeline LLC, Spire MoGas Pipeline LLC, and Spire Storage (comprising the operations of Spire Storage West LLC and Spire Storage Salt Plains LLC). These subsidiaries are involved in the transportation and storage of natural gas. Other consolidated operations include subsidiaries engaged in operating a propane pipeline and risk management activities, along with unallocated corporate items such such as certain debt and associated interest costs.
