RYAM is a global leader in cellulose and derivatives, which are used in filters, food, pharmaceuticals, high performance plastics, propellants, and various industrial applications. The company's specialized assets produce cellulose specialties products, cellulose viscose pulp, cellulose fluff pulp, high-yield pulp, and value-added derivatives such as paperboard, biofuels, bioelectricity, and lignin. RYAM began as Rayonier Inc.'s performance fibers business, primarily producing cellulose specialties, and became an independent, publicly traded company on June 27, 2014. In November 2017, RYAM acquired Tembec Inc., a manufacturer of cellulose specialties, lumber, paperboard, newsprint, and high-yield pulp. The lumber and newsprint assets from the Tembec acquisition were sold in August 2021, with their operating results presented as discontinued operations. In July 2024, RYAM indefinitely suspended operations at its Temiscaming cellulose plant to address high capital needs and operating losses from commodity viscose products. In the first quarter of 2026, the company decided to permanently cease DWP production at the Temiscaming cellulose plant. However, certain infrastructure assets at the site continue to support the energy and other needs of the Temiscaming paperboard and high-yield pulp plants, which operate at full capacity and support the Paperboard and High-Yield Pulp operating segments.
