Iridium Communications Inc. is a leading provider of global voice, data, and positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) satellite services. Its low-Earth orbit (LEO), L-band network delivers specialized, reliable, weather-resilient communications to areas lacking or with limited terrestrial wireless or wireline networks, including remote land, open ocean, airways, polar regions, and areas affected by conflicts or disasters. Iridium's satellites also host additional payloads for other customers, such as Aireon LLC. The company leverages its experience operating a commercial LEO satellite system to offer engineering and operational services to government customers and network operators, including the U.S. Space Force. Iridium's core business involves providing voice and data communications to businesses, U.S. and foreign governments, non-governmental organizations, and consumers through its satellite network. This network consists of 66 operational satellites with in-orbit spares and supporting ground infrastructure. The company uses an interlinked mesh architecture in space, routing traffic via radio frequency crosslinks between satellites. This design reduces the need for local ground facilities, enabling global service reach and operations in countries and regions without a physical presence. Iridium primarily sells its products and services to commercial end users through a global wholesale distribution network. This network currently includes approximately 120 service providers, approximately 310 value-added resellers (VARs), and approximately 90 value-added manufacturers (VAMs) who create and sell technology utilizing the Iridium network.
