Hallador Energy Co

Hallador Energy Company is a vertically integrated independent power producer and fuel company with primary operations in Indiana. The company operates across the energy value chain, from accredited capacity and energy to coal. Its electric operations are located within the Midcontinent Independent System Operator's (MISO) footprint. Hallador Power Company, LLC, a subsidiary, provides accredited capacity and energy to utilities and other energy market participants through its MISO interconnection. Sunrise Coal, LLC, another subsidiary, mines bituminous coal in Indiana for power plants in the Midwest and Southeast United States. The business is organized into two segments: Electric Operations and Coal Operations. Hallador also holds 50% interests in Sunrise Energy, LLC and Oaktown Gas, LLC. Through its operating subsidiaries, the company delivers three main products. Accredited Capacity is provided by Hallador Power, which owns and operates the Merom Power Plant, a 1,080 MW coal-fired power generating station with two steam turbine generators. Unit 1 began commercial operations in 1982 and Unit 2 in 1983. Hallador Power sells accredited capacity to utilities and other energy market participants within the MISO system, mainly through power purchase agreements and other bilateral transactions. Energy is sold wholesale by Hallador Power to utilities, generation and transmission cooperatives, and other energy market participants within the MISO system through power purchase agreements, bilateral transactions, and on a spot basis in the day-ahead and real-time MISO markets. Fuel is mined by Sunrise, the company's wholly-owned mining subsidiary, from coal reserves in the Illinois Basin.
