Edison Q3 Core EPS Falls to $1.92 From $2.34; 2026 Core Guidance Reaffirmed
EIX sits 16% above its 52-week low of $51.1.
Summary
Edison reported Q3 net income of $724 million, or $1.88 a share, down from $832 million, or $2.16, a year earlier, on revenue of $4.89 billion. Core EPS fell to $1.92 from $2.34, which the company attributes mainly to earnings recognized in Q3 2025 when the 2025 GRC final decision was implemented retroactively to Jan. 1, 2025, partly offset by higher authorized revenue. The company reaffirmed 2026 core EPS guidance of $5.90-$6.20 but trimmed the basic EPS range to $5.66-$5.96 from $5.70-$6.00 to reflect $0.24 of non-core items booked through September. Wildfire-related claims were only $8 million in the quarter versus $295 million a year ago, so the print is a rate-case comparison story rather than a fresh fire charge. The bigger overhang remains unresolved: the Muddy Waters short position from mid-October, the LA County Fire Department report on SCE equipment, and the failed California wildfire liability bill. CEO Pizarro used the release to push again for lasting wildfire reform, which is the real swing factor for the stock.
