American Airlines Group Inc. (AAG) is a holding company that operates a major network air carrier, providing scheduled air transportation for passengers and cargo. Its principal, wholly-owned subsidiaries include American Airlines, Inc. (American), Envoy Aviation Group Inc., PSA Airlines, Inc., and Piedmont Airlines, Inc. AAG was formed in 1982, with American founded in 1934. The company's primary business is operating a major network air carrier, offering scheduled air transportation for passengers and cargo. This is done through its hubs in Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C., as well as partner gateways including London, Doha, Madrid, Seattle/Tacoma, Sydney, and Tokyo. American Airlines Group provides service to over 350 destinations worldwide. In 2025, approximately 224 million passengers boarded its flights, and the company launched more than 60 new routes, including to trans-Atlantic destinations such as Spain, Italy, and Greece. As of December 31, 2025, the company operated 1,013 mainline aircraft, supported by its wholly-owned regional airline subsidiaries and third-party regional carriers, which together operated an additional 567 regional aircraft. American is a founding member of the one world® Alliance, a global network of 15 member airlines and their affiliates.
